Post Size Guide

This guide assists in selecting post sizes for EziScreen fences, screens, and gates.

The EziScreen aluminium posts have 2mm side walls, a central reinforcing rib for stiffness, and two screw flutes allowing matching bolt-down post feet to be attached.

What size post do I need?

The EziScreen system includes 3 sizes of ribbed posts, 51x51mm, 65x65mm, and 90x90mm, all of which are available in a range of lengths. Use the questionnaire below to select a minimum post size for your fence or gate.

It is absolutely critical that the right post is used for the right application!

What type of post is it?

Minimum Post Size: Sliding gate

Use a 90x90mm concrete set (in-ground) post. Consult your engineer for very large gates.

Can the gate post be fixed to a sturdy brick wall or similar structure?

Minimum Post Size: Swinging gate fixed to wall

A 51x51mm post can be fixed directly to the wall.

How is the gate post to be set?
Where is the post located?

Minimum Post Size: Swinging gate, in-ground, continuous run of fence

Minimum Post Size: Swinging gate, in-ground, corner or free standing

*Consult your engineer regarding an appropriate post.

Where is the post located?

Minimum Post Size: Swinging gate, bolt-down, continuous run of fence

*Bolt down post foot not recommended without additional support. Consult your engineer for gates higher than 2100mm.

Can the infill panel be fixed to a sturdy brick wall or similar structure?

Minimum Post Size: Infill panel fixed to wall

No post is required. The panel can be fixed directly to the wall using the F-section or U-channel, for example.

How is the infill panel post to be set?

Interpreting the Table

Calculate the height and width of your fence or gate and then read the minimum suggested post size from the table. If one of your dimensions falls between two columns, then use the larger height or width value from the table.

How long should a concrete set (in-ground) post be?

A rule of thumb is that at least one third of the post, or 60cm, should be below the ground, whichever length is greater. For example, if a fence is 180cm tall, then you would need posts at least 240cm long. If a fence is 100cm tall, then you would need posts at least 160cm long. If you are setting your posts in soft soil, or you are in a high wind area, you might require longer posts and bigger holes.

Important

This is a general guide for selecting post sizes and it might not be suitable for your project. Larger, longer posts may be required for commercial and heavy duty applications. If in doubt, size up, and seek advice from an engineer.

This guide applies to EziScreen fences and gates only. It should not be used for other EziScreen products or other fencing systems.
